The “You Have an Inalienable Right To Rest!” Sleep Challenge – Introduction

We all know—at least in theory—the recipe for health:

  • move more,
  • eat less processed junk,
  • eat more vegetables and fruit,
  • drink more water,
  • stress less or at least manage stress better,
  • and get enough sleep.

Although this sounds fairly simple, in practice, this recipe is much harder to implement.

In the chaotic rhythm of my life—juggling roles as a mom, wife, and business owner, all while managing three lively pets—I’ve been on a relentless journey toward health, fitness, and ultimately longevity. However, there’s been something affecting my well-being—going to bed too late, disrupted sleep, and inadequate sleep quality and often quantity.

Over the last few years, I’ve incrementally increased my exercise and movement to a level I’m quite happy with. I’ve also experimented with various ways of healthy eating to find what works best for me. In my pursuit of wellness, I’ve come to a crossroads where the balance between my workouts and my daily life intersect with a crucial yet often overlooked element—SLEEP.

I’ve realized that good quality sleep is the key to the deep health I seek. Without it, my workouts are often a struggle, as is eating in alignment with my goals. Not getting enough quality sleep means I’m not progressing in my physical goals—I’ve recently regressed in my handstand practice. While this may not be a big deal in the grand scheme of things, it is my goal and affecting other areas of my life in various ways.

This realization has ignited a quest within me to unravel the intricacies of my sleep, and I encourage you to embark on this exploration with me.

In a world that glorifies hustle and burnout, I propose a different anthem—one that champions the INALIENABLE RIGHT TO REST. As we dive into the labyrinth of sleep, let’s redefine our relationship with sleep, not merely as a necessity but as a cornerstone of a vibrant life.

Over the next several weeks and months, I’ll share how I’m approaching my sleep habits and changes I’m implementing. I encourage you to look at your own, and if you decide to maybe implement your own changes.

So, are you ready to embark on this journey with me? Let’s navigate the realms of sleep, challenge our habits, and embrace a future where rest is not just a pause but a powerful catalyst for a life filled with boundless energy and vitality!
