Change is a powerful force that has the ability to transform our lives in ways we never thought possible.

It can be messy, scary, uncomfortable, and even challenging at times, but it’s also necessary for growth and realizing our true potential.

If you’re reading this post, you probably want to make a change in your life. If you’re reading this blog, you probably want to make a change to better your health.

Change is often difficult and non-linear.

We often just want to get from point A to point B, but what does this mean in practice?

First of all, it’s important to remember that change will never be perfect or linear. Our journey from point A to point B will have it’s ups and downs, and often twists and unexpected turns. The more we’re prepared for them, the better we’ll handle them.

For example, let’s say you’ve decided to lose weight. You might increase how much you move and maybe change some of your eating habits. After a month, you’ll probably lose somewhere around 3-4 pounds. Yay!

The next month, you continue doing what you were doing. You were successful after all. At the end of the second month, you’ve lost 2 pounds.

What?! You’re doing everything right. How can that happen?

What do you do now?

Do you decide you’re a failure? Do you give up? Do you binge on all the foods you denied yourself the last two months?

Do you look at what happened? Do you analyze it?

Now imagine yourself six months or a year from now. You’re slimmer, more toned, or whatever your health goal is.

How did you get there? How did you navigate this transformation?

Here we get to the essential question for navigating change:

How do we bridge the gap between who we are and who we aspire to be?

The key lies in understanding our identity and embracing the process of change.

Too often, we resist change because we fear losing sight of who we are.

However, true transformation begins with introspection, a deep dive into our current identity and an honest assessment of where we stand.

Imagine crafting an avatar of yourself—a visual representation of your beliefs, values, and aspirations. This avatar serves as a mirror, reflecting not only who you are but also who you have the potential to become.

It’s through this self-reflection that we can identify the areas of our identity that no longer serve us and envision the person we aspire to be.

The pivotal question then becomes:

Who do I need to become?

By shifting our focus from the present to the future, we open ourselves up to endless possibilities. We start to envision the traits, habits, and mindset of our ideal selves, laying the foundation for meaningful change.

Take an action—journal

First, visualize yourself when you’ve achieved your goal.

Then, in a notebook or journal, write as much as possible about who you’ve become.

Some questions to consider:

  • What did I achieve?
  • What does this mean in physical terms? What is the manifestation of your goal?
  • How do you feel now? What emotions are present?
  • What is your mindset like now?
  • What has changed in and around you?
  • What was required to achieve this change?
  • Who have you become in the process?
  • What tips or advice would future you have for current you?

Change requires action

Change requires more than just envisioning a new identity—it demands action.

Look at what you wrote to the answers above and you have some guidelines to move forward.

Each step we take towards our ideal self brings us closer to our desired transformation. It may be uncomfortable at times, stepping out of our comfort zone and challenging ingrained beliefs, but it is through this process that we grow.

Moreover, as I said above, change is not a linear journey. It is filled with ups and downs, setbacks and breakthroughs.

Embracing change means embracing the messiness of growth—acknowledging our imperfections and learning from our failures.

Ultimately, the journey of identity and change is about self-discovery and self-empowerment. It is about recognizing that we have the power to shape our own destinies and become the architects of our lives.

By embracing change, we not only transform ourselves but also inspire those around us to do the same.

In conclusion, change begins with introspection and self-reflection.

By crafting a vision of our ideal selves and taking intentional steps towards that vision, we can embrace transformation and unlock our full potential.

So the next time you find yourself at a crossroads, ask yourself: Who do I need to become? And watch as the path to change unfolds before you.
