So let’s embark on an exciting journey through the world of vegan cooking!
My favorite vegan recipe sites
FAT FREE VEGAN KITCHEN

This is the website I used to learn how to cook and bake vegan when I transitioned to veganism in 2006. Back then there weren’t so many blogs and vegan influencers as there are now. There also weren’t so many vegan products in stores.
Susan Voisin has been my inspiration and Fat Free Vegan Kitchen is the first blog I check when looking for cooking ideas.
My favorite recipes are:
- Chocolate orange cake, which can be made gluten free BTW
- Easy vegan spinach and mushroom lasagna, which has been a staple in our home for years
- Ethiopian-inspired red lentil soup, which I cannot recommend enough
VEGAN RICHA

Vegan Richa is another blog I’ve been going to for recipes and ideas for many years now. It’s written by Richa Hingle.
I like spicy and lots of flavor, so naturally I gravitate towards Indian food, although that isn’t all this site has to offer.
My favorite recipes are:
- Palak tofu paneer, which has been my signature party dish that’s always a hit
- Spinach pinwheels with cream cheese, which have become our family’s traditional Thanksgiving dish
- Kung Pao lentils, which I mix up by changing the lentils to another bean or even tofu or tempeh
- Atalkilt Wat — Ethiopian cabbage, potato, carrots, a simple but flavorful dish
IT DOESN’T TASTE LIKE CHICKEN

It doesn’t taste like chicken is a great site if you want veganized versions of your favorite dishes. Sam taught me how to make really easy and fast cranberry sauce.
Some of my favorite recipes:
- Easy vegan orange chicken, simple, delicious, and gluten free
- Vegan sushi bowl, which is one of my favorite meal making concepts (rice + tofu + veggies + sauce)
- Vegan sharp cheddar cheese, which I used to make a lot when vegan cheeses weren’t so easy to buy, and now make when I want to eat a healthier homemade version
- Easy pumpkin pie
HEALTHIER STEPS
If, like me, you love to travel to experience different cuisines and cultures, you’ll love Healthier Steps. Michelle Blackwood does many vegan versions of amazing Jamaican or African dishes.
- Jamaican steamed cabbage
- Jamaican-style kidney bean curry
- Jerk tofu
- Ghanian red red
- Jamaican lentil patties
